Amsoil Saber 90:1.. in my 582. Your engine will thank you for it. Synthetics have come a long long way over the years. Before I crossed over to that I ran Penzoil for air cooled engines in my 503's for years.

Best I've found is BRP XPS mineral oil... Pretty cheap when bought in bulk... bring your own containers.

Penzoil for aircooled is supposed to be very good too but not available in Canada.

I use Bombardier XPS mineral oil and I buy in Bulk as well from Ski doo dealer.
With injection I go 150 hours on a set of plugs and I only use NKGs supplied from Rotax more money but will last much much longer That is a whole new topic http://www.cfisher.com/152hournkg.html and http://www.cfisher.com/ngk/
My last 582 went over 500 hours and never was taken apart, no de-carboning just a few sets of Exhaust gaskets. Still running stong when i changed it fora New 582 .

For Pre mix Ski doo oil is expensive like 6$ for 500ml ( about 1/2 quart) so Everyone here has changed to Shell Advance mineral oil which is alos API -TC rated and available at Canadian tire for 17 to 24 $ for a gallon or 4 litres .

I was in Walmart a few weeks ago for my first time and they has many varieties of 2 stroke oil, you really have to read the labels to ensure it carries the API_TC rating and not TCW3 which is outboard oil. They had Castrol Super 2 Stroke oil that carried the API- TC rating and it was $4.28 a litre ( about a quart)

I think one of the biggest contributing factors to crank failures is not just the lack of use but what oil it was running. Synthetics do not protect as well as mineral oil for corrosion abilities. In the dry climates and with usage at least twice week if might do ol for you. In more extreme climates it simply will not . I do think that synthetics do lubriacte ok but lack in protection ability for corrosion so I see no need to use it .
I don;'t really want to start a pissing match on oils but why is synthetic used if it costs more and gives less corrosion protection ? I have heard on pushers it helps leave less residue on the tail, well if you have oil injection you would get less as well. Pre mix uses alot more oil and burns richer from oil than a injected plane an give no more protection but might add to de-carboning as you are running at 50 to 1 ALL the TIME where as with injection you run 50 to 1 at WIDE OPEN only........... I average 65 to 70 to one on X country flights in my 582s.

Pennzoil -- well I have used it and it fine but not readily available in Canada . I willl note there are SkiDoo and SeaDoo dealer across the world and they all stock the oils above.

I have been using Yamalube 2 in my 582 with good results. It is a semi-synthetic and readily available at the Yamaha motorcycle dealership.

Glad to hear of good results, - how many hours on your engine? How often do you changed plugs?
are you pre mix or injected ?

Thanks

For the last few years I have switched to Walmart Super Tech two cycle oil. It is made by Penzoil/Quakerstate. I have oil injection, but i usually add a few ounces to each five gallons of 87 octane auto gas. I run Lucus semi-synthetic oil, and a blend of 2/3 premium autogas and 1/3 100LL in my 670 at 45:1. The difference is the extra 45 horsepower out nearly the same displacement engine. Hey, why pay more? $10.50/gallon.

From a post on another forum about Wally World oil:

Re: WallyWorld SuperTech 2-Cycle Oil
You can't judge oil by the price. Price is a marketing issue, not a performance issue. Oil additives don't deplete. They just get to a point where they can no longer suspend contaminates. Contaminates will eventually saturate the additives, break lose from the oil suspension, and cause engine wear. Additives themselves don't really go anywhere or deplete. They remain in the oil until it is burned. This is why (ex: automobiles) it is recommended to use bypass filtration (extra filter) when running extended drain intervals.Wal-Mart Super Tech oil is manufactured, blended, and distributed by Warren Distribution (per Bob Porter of Warren Dist.). Warren purchases their base stock from reputable and popular suppliers. They purchase their additive packages from reputable additive suppliers (there are only a few who supply the entire industry). Super Tech is not a cheap oil in terms of performance. It is registered and certified with the nmma while other more expensive oils are not. It has been tested. It has proven reliable for millions of consumers. There is no such thing as a correlation between the price of oil and having to decarb. I am unaware that Super Tech oil would require more decarbing over a more expensive oil, or that Super Tech users would have to decarb at all.Different outboards perform and react differently to oil. Much depends on combustion characteristics and the design of the engine. Blanket statements of which oil is better are really dependent on the outboard itself. Remember that most outboard manufacturers don't specify a brand of oil. They only list a specification (ex: tcw3). To better understand which oil is best, you must know what is in that oil. That is proprietary information, which I can see leads to much speculation here. The best bet is to go with the manufacturer's specification, knowing that a specified oil has in it what you need. Getting what you need for less money is only a bonus.

I have now started to use Lucas 2 cycle semi synthetic oil.

IT meets API TC rating and is carried by retailers such as Car Quest etc. I like it over other the other
possible synthetics such as Amsoil because it is not all synthetic.

I have thousands of hours with mineral oil I have sold many cranks to synthetics users. They do seem to lubricate ok BUT they offer little if any corrosion protection while not in use.

Climate also has an effect as well. In the great lakes region where I am we get moist and humid all year long.

What is the benefit of using synthetic oil ? Walmart sell castrol Super 2 stroke mineral oil ( API-TC RATED ) for 4.28 CDN a litre. Good deal
Bombardier XPS is about 7 $ a litre in bulk. Shell advance is about 25 to 30 $ a gallon.

Your Rotax injection pump it not adjustable and works well stock.

I just completed a long x country to erie air park for the Challenger yearly Fly-in. As noted in a previuos post I switched to
Lucas 2 cycle racing oil. My results after flight were very good. No oil residue on tail (Challenger) also checked plugs
and they are burning tan as one would like. Exhaust pipe outlet also cleaned up. I was using Pennzoil aircooled prior to this.
I have oil injection on a 503.
I'm sure there are many good oils one can use, so long as it is for air-cooled engines.
